How Solace Psychology Will Work With You

Get In Touch

Start by calling us or filling out our contact form. Our dedicated in-house Client Support team understands how finding a psychologist can be overwhelming. We can support you with any hesitation or questions.

Matching You With a Psychologist

We will ask you a few questions to match you with the registered Psychologist whose experience and style best fit your needs. You can also look at our Psychologists and let us know who you connect with most. We will organise your first session, run you through all the necessary information, and email your appointment time, location and Psychologist’s details.

Initial Sessions

During the first one to two sessions, your Psychologist will ask questions about your experience and history. They will understand your goals to develop a personalised treatment plan for you. It is also a good opportunity for you to ask questions about your psychologist’s style of therapy.

Feedback and Adaptation

Along the way, your Psychologist will check in with you about how the psychological treatment is tracking and if you need more/less emphasis on a particular area. We love feedback because you are the expert in what you need. We want to hear from you to best support you.

Our Team

Our experienced Melbourne team use evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies. We work with individuals from all backgrounds and provide LGBTQIA+ safe care for kids, youth and adults.

FAQs

Where do I start?

The research stage of psychological treatment can feel overwhelming and leave you feeling indecisive. We can help you with that. New clients can call or complete our contact form to get the ball rolling. You can send us your referral (if you have one) or tell us what you want support with (and if you don’t know that’s fine! This is a good goal for therapy too).

Our Client Support team can discuss all the options and explain what you need to know. Our Support Team have lived experiences with Mental Health and seeking psychological support, so they can relate to your questions or concerns and are compassionate and friendly humans.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist in Victoria?

You do not need a referral or be experiencing acute psychological symptoms to access therapy. Many of our clients seek therapy to have a space to talk through and process life transitions and challenges, identify patterns that are keeping them stuck and impacting them negatively, or for support with moving towards the type of relationships and careers we value.

Some do not know and want to use the space to process and work it out. All are very valid reasons to seek counselling sessions.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a therapist in Australia?

Psychologists study human behaviour. Following up to 6 years of study, psychologists are registered to practise with AHPRA. Psychologists are skilled in various transdiagnostic therapies (e.g., cognitive behavioural therapy).

These effective therapies can be applied to multiple diagnoses or mental health issues. Therapist is a broader term that can be used for someone providing mental health counselling following varying certificates, diplomas or degrees. Therapists may not have the same level of regulation or practice requirements under a registered board.

How do I find the right psychologist in Melbourne?

Our friendly team will ask you a few questions to match you with the Psychologist who may best fit your needs. You can also look through our Psychologists and let us know who resonates with you via the bios on our website.

How long is each session & how many sessions will I need?

Sessions last approximately 50 minutes. The number of sessions depends on your goals. This can be discussed in the initial session.

Some individuals will come for a few sessions, others will have seen psychologists before and are looking for a different approach or support with life changes. Others will be seeking mental health services for the first time and want to understand their experience and how to move forward.

How much do sessions cost?

Our fees are structured to ensure accessibility and quality care. They range from $130-$285 per session.

We adhere to the Australian Psychological Society’s recommended rate of $311 per session to ensure fair compensation for our dedicated psychologists.

Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) can benefit from the following Medicare rebates:

$96.65 for a standard session (general psychological services)

$141.85 for a clinical session (focused psychological strategies)

These rebates help to make psychological services more affordable for our clients, ensuring they receive the support they need without financial strain.
